项目摘要

本研究で対象とする樹木2種は、研究対象地において局所的なすみわけをして個体群を維持している可能性があり、それらが個体群の持続性に及ぼす影響、また、それらを実現させているプロセスやその動態における種間差等の解明のため、フィールド調査を主とした調査・解析を行ってきた。設定調査区における成木の空間立地特性を、GISを活用して定量的に評価し、林床における実生の空間配置における親木依存性を検証できるようにした。4年間の発芽実生追跡データをもとに、親木依存の影響を排除した上で、各々の種の量的分布や、成長動態における環境依存の程度や種特性を統計学的に解析した。これによって時系列に沿ったデモグラフィーとその種間差を推論した。結果、量的分布においては、ブナの環境非依存的な分布とイヌブナの地形依存的分布が検出され、成長形質においては、ブナの高い成長率とシカによる食害に対する回復力の低さが、逆に、イヌブナの低い成長率と高い食害耐性が検出され、それぞれに種間差がみられた。このような差は、ある与えられた条件下での実生の持続性の差という面から、ブナとイヌブナの2種に異なった更新機会を提供することになる。そのため、この2種は異なったフェーズでの更新を行うことができ、同一林分においても両種で高い優占度を維持することにつながるだろうと考えられた。また、天然林下における更新動態を複数軸から評価することによって、このような同属異種の種間差を理解できることを、本研究では見出すことができたと考えている。
