Study on the technological development of the flood mitigation

本研究的成果是水田大坝技术的发展、效果的量化和措施的推广。针对5个不同排水系统的农业水库，研制了多种径流控制装置。检查的结果证实，PFD措施有效地缓解了所有研究水库的淹没程度。根据水库的特点，PFD的经济价值估计在1,000至17,000日元之间。由于PFD在新泻取得了成功，北海道、富山和山形县也实行了PFD。

The achievements of this study are the technological development of the Paddy Field Dam(PFD), the quantification of its effect, and the propagation of the measure. We developed several types of runoff control devices for five agricultural reservoirs that have different drainage systems. As a result of the examination, it was confirmed that the PFD measure functioned effectively to mitigate inundation magnitude in all the study reservoirs. The economic values of the PFD are estimated to range between 1,000 and 17, 000 yen depending on the characteristics of reservoirs. Owing to the success of the PFD in Niigata, the PFD is practiced in Hokkaido, Toyama and Yamagata Prefectures.
