Understanding of toughening/strengthening mechanism from viewpoint of deformation behavior of organic phase

研究了贝壳珠层的断裂机理。主要关注的是有机相的作用。力学性能评价和显微断裂行为观察表明，珠光层文石板间界面的滑动行为受有机相控制，从而获得优异的力学性能。利用模型定量地理解了这种行为，这有助于获得陶瓷复合材料的设计原则。

Fracture mechanism of nacre in shell was investigated. The main interest was focused on the role of the organic phase. From evaluation of mechanical properties and observation of microscopic fracture behavior, it was revealed that the sliding behavior at the interface between aragonite plates in nacre was controlled by the organic phase and thereby the excellent mechanical properties were achieved. This behavior was quantitatively understood using a model, which helps obtain a design principle for ceramics composites.
