自閉症児者の視覚的情報処理は,定型発達と同様に全体処理を行うことができるが,全体よりも細部優位の処理をしている点が定型発達と異なると考えられている。また,指示により全体・細部の注意の切り替えを行うことはできるが,全体処理を行う際,細部情報の抑制ができないということが自閉症の特徴として示唆されている。本研究の目的は,実験心理学および生理心理学的手法を用いて自閉症児に見られる局所優位の視覚情報処理過程を明らかにすることである。視覚的注意における情報処理過程の研究では認知特性のみの記述に留まっているため,情報処理におけるプロセスを解明することは意義のあることである。これまでの実験心理学的検討において,高機能自閉症児においては反応時間の有意な遅延,正答率の分散が大きいことなどが報告されており,本研究の実験心理学的検討においても反応時間において高機能自閉症児群では,個人の分散が大きくなる傾向が見られることが確認された。事象関連電位(ERP)を用いた生理心理学的検討では,階層的情報処理課題におけるERP成分は,あらかじめ刺激に対する対象者の注意を促しておく選択的注意課題と,注意喚起を行わない分割的注意課題とで誘発される初期成分が異なる可能性があることが示唆されているが,それに加え,実験心理学的検討で使用してきた数字刺激の全体情報,局所情報に特化した成分を検討する必要性が生じた。そのため,定型発達成人を対象とした数字刺激に対する全体/局所情報に特化した成分の予備検討を新たに加え,定型発達成人および定型発達児での検討を行い,成人と児童との成分の差異を確認している。また同時に,高機能自閉症児に対する検討を継続して行っている。
