今年度も、紀元4世紀のローマ帝国で活躍したギリシア語修辞学者リバニオスの残した『書簡集』および弁論史料の分析を中心にして、ギリシア語・ギリシア文化を紐帯としていた東地中海世界の人々が、支配者であるローマ人の文化をいかにして受容していたのかという側面を分析した。今年度は口頭報告1件、投稿論文2件の成果を収めた。すなわち、5月20日(日)に開催された日本西洋史学会第62回大会(於明治大学駿河台キャンパス)古代史部会で「ローマ帝政後期のギリシア修辞学とローマ法学」という論題で口頭報告を行い、ローマ帝政後期におけるローマ法学・ラテン語教育とギリシア修辞学教育との併存状況に関する発表をした。また、これと関連して、先行研究によるリバニオスとギリシア修辞学教育に関する史的状況を再考する論文「ローマ帝政後期のギリシア修辞学と法学・ラテン語教育」を執筆し、『西洋史研究』に掲載予定である。一連の研究は、ローマ帝国の東地中海世界支配下において、被支配者側がいかにしてローマ法に代表される支配者側の文化を受け入れ、自らの伝統的な文化・教育を変容させていったかを明るみにするものである。さらに、テオドシウス法典研究会に参加し、ラテン語で書かれた帝政後期のローマ法史料を精読した。その精読および註解の成果は、「テオドシウス法典(Codex Theodosianus)(二一)」(共著)として『法政史学』78号(2012年)に掲載予定である。この法典は古典ローマ法が後の時代にいかに実践され、継承されていったかを解明する上での重要な史料であり、日本語への翻訳は本邦初の試みである。

This year, the fourth century of the empire is active, the rhetoric scholars are active, the collection of books is active, and the analysis of historical materials is central. This year, there was 1 oral report and 2 papers submitted. The 62nd Conference of the Japan Society of Western History was held on May 20, 2010. The conference was held at the Meiji University. The paper "Rhetoric and Law Education in the Later Period of the Chinese Empire" was written and published in "Western History Studies." A series of studies have been carried out on the cultural and educational aspects of the East Mediterranean world under the control of the empire and the dominated side. In the late period of the imperial government, the historical materials of the law were refined. The results of the commentary are published in "Code Theodosius (21)"(co-authored) and "Legal History" No. 78 (2012). This code is an important historical material in the era of classical law, and it is also an important historical material in the era of Japanese law.
