2012年度は(1)仮名テクストにおける音楽表現の考察、(2)秘曲伝授儀礼の空間再現と、儀礼テクストの考察、(3)御楽の成立と展開についての究明を中心におこなった。(1)では四条隆房『安元御賀記』の定家本系に注目した。定家本系の大部分が漢文日記の訓み下しで書かれている点を指摘した上で、天皇の奏する楽器や、儀礼の荘厳さを讃える文章に、仮名でのみ可能な表現がされていることを明らかにした。ここから、仮名による歴史叙述においてこそ、身体性や祝祭性が再現されることを指摘した。そして、こうした仮名でのみ可能な表現が、歴代の仮名日記において度々引用されることから、仮名によって儀礼の身体や音が繋がれる、という見地を示した。(2)では秘曲伝授の場であった西園寺北山第妙音堂を文字史料より推定復元し、儀礼の次第に基づいて秘曲伝授を図示化することを試みた。その結果、秘曲伝授においては、弟子(秘曲伝授を受けるもの)は本尊である妙音天と対峙した形で秘曲を伝授されていることがわかった。また妙音堂を使用して行われる行事であった妙音講にも着目し、その式である『妙音講式』についての諸本比較を行った。その結果、最古写本であり金剛三昧院本が藤原師長作であり、それ以外の諸本が西園寺家による改変を加えられたものであることが推定された。(3)では御楽という、管絃のみの演奏による音楽儀礼に注目し、その成立と展開について考察した。その結果、御楽は十四世紀以降の史料においてたびたびその名前が見られるようになり、十五世紀においては宮廷の主要な音楽儀礼として位置づけられていたことがわかった。またこの考察過程で、文学作品にも御楽が見いだされた。具体的には『増鏡』「秋のみ山」に見える、後醍醐天皇による琵琶・玄上奏楽の場が御楽と認められ、また『建武年中行事』と連関するものであることが明らかとなった。
