Collection, Preservation, and Study of Mo Jing, the Traditional Scriptures of the Buyi Ethnic Minority, in Guizhou Province, China

For this study, we conducted research in the vicinity of Guiyang City as well as in the counties of Zhenfeng, Wangmo, Qianxi, Ceheng, Pingba, and Zhenning in Guizhou province, in the People's Republic of China. We collected or photographed several dozen types of Mo Jing(traditional scriptures of the Buyi ethnic minority), looked into the number of Mo Jing still in existence, as well as the number of Bumo(priests) who kept Mo Jing in their charge, and their lineage in each village, and created a database of the type of each scripture, the name of the village(or the clan) in which it was used, the date of its collection, its condition, and so forth. We also organized, classified, and compared the scriptures thus far collected, while at the same time deciphering, analyzing, and translating them into Chinese. In addition, we proposed methods of preserving and utilizing these traditional documents of the Buyi ethnic group.
