The aim of this study is to device forest managements in boreal forests of North America and Northern Europe, based on ecological processes related to disturbance regimes. In order to quantify dispersal limitation and environmental filtering effects on regeneration processes of boreal forests in Canada, we formulated a spatial model of the inhomogeneous Neyman-Scott process, and examined the relative importance of post-fire seed dispersal and regeneration site due to burning. The results suggested the importance of site-preparation and retention system for forest managements. To understand the impacts of windthrows on primeval Picea abies-dominated boreal forests in Finland and Russia, we developed a circular statistical model explaining directions of fallen logs. Our results demonstrated spatial synchronicity and the susceptibility of forests against wind disturbance. It was suggested that reconstructing windthrow history is a promising way for developing ecological forestry.
