In examining the idea of martyrdom in Western society, especially in modern England, the study has researched a broad range of modern publications aimed at infant readers from literary works, biographies, religious writings, through to school textbooks, revealing how the style of death called martyrdom had captured children’s hearts and influenced the Christian mindset through the ages.
