Basic research on the Islamic sacred sites in Xinjiang AutonomousRegion of China.

This research project aims to describe Islamic sacred sites locates in Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region of China comprehensively, based on information acquired from written materials as well as results of field researches. Specifically, we have achieved series of research tasks such as collection of mazar-related accounts in written materials(travelogues, gazetteers, historiographies, hagiographies and documentary sources), conducting field researches intensively in Kashgar region, organizing presentation panel focusing on methodology of mazar-description and conducting individual studies on mazars. As an end product of this project, comprehensive data base enlisted over 400 sacred sites has been created.
