Estimation of Economy of Scale in Household Consumption: Analysis of Japanese National Survey of Family Income and Expenditure Data

在本研究中，我们提出了一个估算家庭消费规模经济程度的理论框架，并从日本的数据集估计了所得模型。我们指定了一个间接效用函数来捕捉家庭特征和消费之间的关系，并推导了一个需求系统。我们估计系统参数从日本的数据集在汇总和单独的形式。估算结果使我们能够评估反映人口特征影响的家庭实际收入水平，并评估过去实际收入分配和规模经济的变化情况。

In this study we present a theoretical framework to estimate degree of scale economy in household consumption, and estimate the resulting model from the Japanese data sets. We specify an indirect utility function that capture the relationship between household characteristics and consumption, and derive a demand system. We estimate the system parameters from the Japanese data sets in both aggregated and individual forms. The estimation results enable us to evaluate households’ real income level which reflects the effects of demographic characteristics, and to evaluate how real income distribution and economy of scale changed in the past.
