Study on the Phenomenon and the Use of In-flow fluidelastic Vibration

It is proved that triangular cylinder arrays supposed to cross-flow can be dynamically unstable in the in-flow direction, when the flow velocity overs a limit value by the air flow test. However, the similar arrays cannot be easily unstable by water flow, ant square cylinder arrays are hard to be judged unstable even by air flow test. The specific feature of this in-flow instability is that it requires more than coupled two cylinders even in the triangular array.On the other hand, a trial to produce the energy based on this in-flow fluidelastic vibration has been conducted with a coil-magnet system set on the air flow test. The test results show the existence of the limit cycle, where the amplitude of the cylinder keeps at the certain value even if it is at the instability, due to the damping effect of the energy harvesting itself.
