A numerical method was developed based on discrete modeling and computational fluid dynamics for direct numerical simulation of soils. A numerical framework for the fluid simulation including many particles with complex shape was developed. Then, the numerical framework was applied to a permeability simulation of saturated soil, and obtained results were validated using empirical equations proposed in the past. Although this study didn’t reach to quantitative numerical simulations of unsaturated soils, potential of the direct numerical simulation was confirmed.
