Hexavalent chromium is being regulated worldwide. Therefore, the development of chromium free corrosion resistant conversion coatings on zinc plating is required. This study aims to improve the corrosion resistance of the vanadate conversion coatings as chromium free conversion coating. Vanadate conversion coatings on zinc plating were prepared by using several types of carboxylic acids as the complexing agents and they were systematically evaluated of corrosion resistance by salt spray test. As a result, it was recognized that corrosion resistance varies with the types of carboxylic acids. In addition the structure and formation of vanadate conversion coating was assumed by surface analysis.
