Roles of specialized nurses for coordinating in the project for the investigation of death associated with medical practice

This study aimed to clarify the specialized role of coordinating nurses in “the project for the investigation of death associated with medical practice .” Based on observations of duties and interviews with coordinating nurses, the following categories were identified: “mediation and resolution of questions posed by the bereaved,” “summarizing case examples,” “participation in evaluation and report making,” and “coordinating an evaluation committee and briefing sessions.” However, decisions in these settings tended to be made instinctively by the specialized nurses. In addition, it became clear that even unqualified office staff often assisted with work in specific categories, such as “case reception,” “interaction with relatives at the time of autopsy,” and “preparation or management of various meetings.”
