UK Nuclear Strategy after the Cold War: Thinking about the Possibility of International Nuclear Non-Proliferation and Disarmament

The two major objectives were set at the beginning of my research financially supported by Kakenhi: (1) studying British nuclear and security policy after the Cold War, and (2) revealing the problems of international nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation, thereby proposing the measures to be taken for promoting international nuclear security. These research objectives have been generally achieved by the publication of academic as well as journalistic articles and of co-authored books.Furthermore, in response to the 3/11 Tohoku earthquake and the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear accident, I have published a work on the UK central government’s crisis management system, from which I think Japan could learn greatly for its future reform of the disaster response system.Now that the three-year Kakenhi-funded period is over, I intend to integrate these separate works into a more comprehensive product, thereby deepening my understanding on nuclear and security issues.
