A Study on Schools in Former Japanese-Occupied Territories: Continuity and Discontinuity from Wartime to Post WWII Period

二战前和二战期间，日本在其殖民地和海外领土，如台湾、韩国、库页岛、关东租界、满洲国、密克罗尼西亚和东南亚等地开办小学。其中，日本在台湾和韩国设立了帝国理工学院。这项研究确定了这些学校的下落信息，其中一些信息一直不为人知。这项研究还指出，战后台湾学校接管了殖民时代的设施甚至部分教学内容，即使在日本军民撤离后，一些日本学者和技术专家仍留在前殖民地和日占领土上。本研究厘清了日光学堂和日月学堂的教学内容，这是台湾、朝鲜和东北中国等主要城市为留守日本人而设的学堂。

Before and during WWII, Japan ran primary schools in its colonies and overseas territories such as Taiwan, Korea, Sakhalin, Kwantung Leased Territory, Manchukuo, Micronesia and Southeast Asia. Among them Japan established the Imperial Universities in Taiwan and Korea. This study identified the whereabouts information of these schools, some of which had been unknown. Also, this study pointed out that post-war Taiwan schools took over facilities and even some of teaching contents of colonial era.Even after the withdrawal of Japanese military and civilians, some of Japanese academics and technical experts remained in the former colonies and Japanese-occupied territories. This study clarified the teaching contents of Nikkyo schools and Nisseki schools, the schools for the pupils of such remaining Japanese people in major cities of Taiwan, North Korea and Northeast China.
