Detroit is a typical shrinking city at the post-industrial age. The urban social systems (governance) that are promorting urban regeneration could be pointed through studying the background of shrinkage and the forms of today.In Detroit the city government has not worked well in the urban regeneration, and the networks among institutions(universities, hospitals and so on), companies and foundations are working better and playing important roles there.At the same time small-size companies are born and changing the landscape of Detroit.

底特律是后工业时代典型的萎缩城市。城市社会制度通过对底特律城市萎缩的背景和表现形式的研究，可以指出推动城市更新的政府机构，如底特律市政府在城市更新中的作用不明显，（大学、医院等），公司和基金会在那里工作得更好，发挥着重要作用。与此同时，小型公司的诞生正在改变底特律的面貌。
