项目摘要

The aim of this joint research project was to look into the historical background as well as the present situations of the oversea Burmese communities in Japan, South Korea, Thailand and Australia for comparison. The project also dealt with the early emigrants from Burma to oversea (such as UK, Australia and New Zealand) during the last stage of British colonial period and the first few years after independence (most of them were Anglo-Burmese). It has become clear that the difference among the policies towards the immigrants in those four countries deeply related with the problems which each Burmese community had to face. In Japan, it has also become apparent that a sense of solidarity came into existence between the ethnic Burmese majority (Bamar) and the other minorities such as Kachins and Karens in the late 2000s.

这一联合研究项目的目的是考察日本、韩国、泰国和澳大利亚的海外缅甸社区的历史背景和现状，以便进行比较。该项目还处理了英国殖民时期最后阶段和独立后最初几年从缅甸移民到海外(如英国、澳大利亚和新西兰)的早期移民(他们大多是盎格鲁-缅甸人)。很明显，这四个国家对移民政策的不同与每个缅甸社区必须面对的问题密切相关。在日本，占人口多数的缅族(巴马族)与克钦族和克伦族等其他少数民族之间的团结感在本世纪头十年后期也变得明显起来。
