Firstly, I conducted the construction of estimated GDP and its components of the Colony of Singapore during the period 1880-1900. As one of major components of GDP, estimates of private final consumption expenditure was attempted. Secondly, based on derived estimated figure, staple theory of Singapore was empirically tested based on these derived estimates. The results suggest that foreign trade had acted both as an engine of growth and a source of economic instability.

首先，我对1880-1900年期间新加坡殖民地的国内生产总值及其组成部分进行了估算。作为国内生产总值的主要组成部分之一，试图对私人最终消费支出进行估计。其次，基于推导出的估计值，对新加坡的主食理论进行了实证检验。结果表明，对外贸易既是增长的引擎，也是经济不稳定的根源。
