Anatomical investigations of facial soft tissues by 3-directionl reconstruction of serial large-size histological specimens.

Human cheek tissue gained from cadaver specimen were investigated histologically. This reserch revealed following new points ;(1)There's no distinct continuous layer called as superficial fascia in the cheek. The analogue of it is, however, though to be fibrous periheral portions of superficial facial muscles such as orbicularis oculi and platysma. (2)Facial fat is firstly devided to superficial and deep layer. Then, deep fat layer is further classified into subunits corresponding to facial nerve territories. (3)Stratified facial musculature are well explained if we regard Rima Oris as basis of facial layer. Face is consist of 4 muscular layers from deep to superficial direction. These new concepts mentioned above are coincide with embriology and function of the face.
