In an attempt to create a new area of research into the history of design in East Asia, a larger region beyond the framework of Japanese border, this research focused on design-related exchanges of people and things among China, Taiwan, Korea and Japan. Specifically, we focused on exhibitions, expositions, educational institutions and students who studied abroad, and published the findings at study meetings and symposia. We held related symposia and conferences at York University in Toronto, Canada in March 2012, at the National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo in May 2012, and at Yunlin University in Taiwan in June 2013. In addition, we deepened exchanges with design historians in Taiwan, Korea, Hong Kong and the UK to build a network that would serve as the basis for further research.

为了在日本边界之外的更大区域——东亚——创造一个新的设计史研究领域，本研究将重点放在中国、台湾、韩国和日本之间与设计相关的人与物的交流上。具体而言，我们关注展览、博览会、教育机构和留学学生，并在研究会议和专题讨论会上发表研究结果。2012年3月在加拿大多伦多约克大学，2012年5月在东京国立现代艺术博物馆，2013年6月在台湾云林大学举办了相关的研讨会和会议。此外，我们与台湾、韩国、香港和英国的设计历史学家加深了交流，建立了一个网络，为进一步的研究奠定基础。
