We have proved that the levobupivacaine, an S (-) enantiomer of bupivacaine, produced potent differential sensory nerve block compared to the effect of bupivacaine in human. And low concentrations of levobupivacaine suppressedconduction in C fibers to a greater extent than in Aβ fibers, possibly resulting in preferential sensory blocking of the pain sensation without disturbing tactile sensationin rats. T o achieve differential blocking effect on sensory nerves by using levobupivacaine, the use of local anesthetics at low concentrations and high doses might be effective. These results will bring benefits to patient in the future.
