项目摘要

本年度はイクビチョッキリ類における植物加工行動について、行動ステップの進化的変遷を明らかにすることを目的として研究を行った。イクビチョッキリ類は葉巻きを作る種が少数派であり、残りのほとんどの種は葉巻きを作らない潜葉性の種である。全体的な行動の進化過程を明らかにするためには、葉巻き種・非葉巻き種両方の植物加工行動の詳細を比較する必要がある。本年度の研究の結果、葉巻き性の1種・コナライクビチョッキリについて、その植物加工行動のほぼ全行程を動画として記録することができた。詳細な加工行動が報告されているイクビチョッキリ類は数種のみであり、本種はSakurai (1990)により行動の概要が報告されているだけであったため、本データは非常に貴重なものである。さらに、これまでの野外観察におけるマルムネチョッキリの加工行動のデータや先行研究のデータを加え、イクビチョッキリ4種間での行動の比較研究も行った。その結果、系統的には離れているけれども同じような形の葉巻きを作る種間では、行動に高い類似性が見られることが分かった。このことから、これまで葉巻き行動は各種において独立に獲得されたと示唆されて来たが、実際には行動の起源の回数はもっと少なく、種間で共通の起源を持つ可能性が示唆された。さらに、行動データの詳細な種間比較を可能にするため、イクビチョッキリのデータを基に行動要素の詳細な類型化を進めている。本作業により、どの行動要素がどの種に欠けているか、あるいは葉巻き種が共通に持つ要素は何か、という点をより明確に浮かび上がらせることができると思われる。
