项目摘要

当該年度(平成24年度)は、「新たなアメリカ黒人文学の可能性の示唆」という視点は変わらず、前年度に発展させたアメリカ黒人文学における「文壇」と「批評動向」の輻輳を考察するため、具体的に現代アメリカ黒人文学における物語様式・主題の問題に取り組んだ。批評動向の具体的な焦点として、現代アメリカ黒人文学と、既存の物語様式との関連について更なる考察を踏まえた。当該年度に扱った作家たちと物語様式は、Walter Mosleyの探偵小説、Octavia E. Butlerのサ・イエンス・フィクション、Charles Johnsonの航海日誌と新・奴隷制体験記である。これらの作家たちは、それぞれ上記の物語様式に則り文学作品を執筆しているが、その作品群はほとんどすべての場合、「現代アメリカ黒人文学」の枠内でしか語られない。つまり、人種的アイデンティティに依拠した批評の枠組が、物語様式に先行する形で語られてきた作家たちであると言えるだろう。本研究の主題である「アメリカ黒人文学とは何か?」という問いかけを考察する上で重要な問題点として、前年度に引き続き具体的な批評対象として、これらの作家とその作品、批評、そして物語様式について包括的に取り扱った。これにより、当初は「新奴隷制体験記」という一様式にのみフォーカスを絞っていた本研究は、「アメリカ黒人文学とは何か?現代アメリカ黒人文学における超越思考の系譜を追う」という本研究テーマに沿い、よりダイナミックに発展したと言える。当該年度は、上記に挙げた3人の作家とその作品について、国内及び国際学会における研究発表を行った。本研究は、アメリカ黒人文学という既存の文学ジャンルの成り立ちと、そこにおいて見逃されがちな物語様式の問題を、現代アメリカ文学批評のあり方から考察し、その制度と歴史を再考することによって、これまでのマイノリティ文学とその批評に新たな読みの可能性を提示する研究として、大変有意義な成果があったと言えよう。
