A study of "sengu"(a reconstruction ceremony) at the Kamowakeikazuchi Shrine during the Edo period

人们曾认为，江户时代的神社“圣古”(重建仪式)是在建筑物被毁的时候举行的。然而，虽然在江户时代，参拜是不定期举行的，但事实是，神社希望大约每隔20年举行一次参拜。原因有两个：一是因为“sengu”被认为是一种宗教仪式，二是因为它是保存该仪式的特殊技能和知识的手段。然而，由于财政问题，德川幕府没有批准这类请求。因此，“森古”只是在不定期的基础上举行。尽管如此，Kamo-wakeikuchi神社还是做出了许多努力，以便更经常地举行“僧侣”。例如，通过与其姊妹神社--神社结盟，同时进行“僧团”，神社试图呼吁神社的遗产和良好的血统。

It used to be considered that "sengu"(a reconstruction ceremony) of the Kamo-wakeikazuchi Shrine during the Edo period had been held when the buildings were destroyed. However, while "sengu" were held at irregular basis during the Edo period, the truth is the shrine desired to hold "sengu" in approximately every 20 years. The reasons are two-fold ; because "sengu" was regarded as a religious ceremony, and because it served as a mean to preserve the special skills and knowledge of the ceremony. However, Tokugawa Shogunate did not approve such requests because of its financial problem. As a result, "sengu" were held only at irregular basis. Nevertheless, the Kamo-wakeikazuchi Shrine made numerous efforts to hold "sengu" more regularly. For example, by allying with with Kamo-mioya Shrine, its sister shrine, and conducting "sengu" at the same time, the Kamo-wakeikazuchi Shrine tried to appeal the heritage and good lineage of the Kamo shrines.
