本研究では、西日本の縄文時代後晩期の土器の生産・使用の動態を解明し、狩猟採集社会における土器文化を解明することを目的とする。型式学的分析による編年・地域性の再検討、資源利用から見る土器生産の変化を軸として研究を進めている。本年度はこれまで研究を進めてきた縄文時代後期後葉の近畿・瀬戸内地方や東海地方の編年をもとに、東日本にも広がる凹線文土器について検討し、当該時期の東西日本を含む広域編年の構築と各地域間関係の解明をめざした。特に北陸地方を中心に編年研究をすすめ、標識資料から新出資料まで網羅的な調査をおこない、これまで少数例でしか語られてこなかった北陸地方の時間軸やその地域的様相について検討した。これに加え、関東地方、中部地方の中心的な遺跡の資料調査をすすめ、文様描出方法や器種構成に着目し、近畿・瀬戸内、東海地方との地域間関係について検討した。今年度予定していた調査は終えることができたが、成果報告までには至らず、今後論文等で報告していくことが課題となった。さらに凹線文土器群から晩期前半無文土器への変遷とその文化的背景について研究を進めた。これまであまり注目されてこなかった無文土器の形態的変化と有文土器との関係性に着目し、土器の無文化という現象について検討している。昨年度に引き続き、東大阪市馬場川遺跡の整理作業をおこない、その成果を報告した。
