项目摘要

メタ認知とは自身の内的な認知活動を客観視しその認知活動自体を情報処理の対象とする内省的な認知能力であり、ヒト成人において極めて発達している能力である。そして近年、この認知能力がヒト以外のほ乳類種にも分有されていることが示唆されてきている。しかし鳥類におけるメタ認知研究はまだ数少なく、得られている肯定的な証拠も弱いものであった。前年度の研究では、鳥類も課題を遂行する前に自身の既知感をモニタリングし行動を柔軟に変化させることを示した。この課題では既知感判断を課題遂行前に行わせているため、反応時間などのメタ認知以外の手がかりを用いた可能性はほぼないと考えられる。本年度は、この研究をまとめ論文を国際雑誌に投稿した。さらに当初の計画では鳥類のメタ認知に関する研究だけであったが、本年度は研究の対象を鳥類からヒト幼児へと広げ、ヒトにおけるメタ認知能力の発達過程を調査した。ヒトにおいて現在の認知状態に対するメタ認知行動は3歳前後に出現すると言われている。しかし少なくともヒト成人は、現在の認知状態のみならず、将来の自身の心的状態に向けた準備的行動をとることができる。そこで実験では、自身の将来の認知状態を見越した準備的行動を行えるようになるのがいつごろかを明らかにしようとした。その結果、このような準備的行動が行えるようになるのは5歳以降である可能性が示された。幼児のメタ認知能力を非言語的手法で確認したことは貴重な成果であり、今後、同様の手法をヒト以外の動物種にも適用することにより、直接的な比較研究が可能になるだろう。
