言語は時系列情報であるため、その処理には音韻情報の短期的保持が必要になる。また、音韻の短期的保持は語の学習にも必要になる。音韻情報には音素(例えば50音)と韻律(アクセントやイントネーション)があるが、これまでの研究は音素に焦点が当てられたものが多く、韻律に関わる知見は比較的少ない。本研究では非単語を用いて、音韻の短期的保持におけるアクセントパタンの影響を検討する。昨年度までに、付帯するアクセントパタンを操作した非単語の短期記憶実験(3または4個の非単語の連続呈示後、それらを呈示順で再生する)を実施し、音素系列は知覚的に示唆的なアクセントパタンを付帯した場合に保持しやすいこと、一方、アクセントパタンは母語に多く出現するパタンが保持しやすいことが示された。本年度はこの現象をより直接的に検討するため、非単語1つの遅延復唱課題を実施した。その結果、アクセントパタンの保持についてはこれまでと同様、母語に多く出現するパタンが保持しやすいことが示されたが、音素系列の保持についてはこれまでの結果と異なり、母語によく出現するアクセントパタンを付帯した音素系列が保持しやすいという結果が得られた。遅延復唱課題成績は、言語の二大処理である認識(聞く)と発話(言う)のうち、特に発話処理に依存していると考えられている。そこで、短期記憶実験のデータについて再度詳細な分析をしたところ、産出処理に依存すると考えられる指標で遅延復唱実験と同じ結果パタンが得られた。以上の結果は、まず我々が母語の韻律構造を学習し、頻度の高いアクセントパタンを効率よく処理するように発達していることを示唆する。さらに音素の処理が、特に発話処理において、付随するアクセントパタンの処理効率に依存していることを示唆する。これらの知見は音韻の短期的保持が音素だけでは記述しきれないことを示し、理論の精緻化と拡張に貢献するものである。
