项目摘要

今年度は、前年度に行ったフランスにおける史料調査よって以下のことを明らかにした。11世紀南フランスにおいて、マルセイユの聖ヴィクトル修道院にクリュニー修道院を凌ぐ勢力があり、その背景として同修道院と世俗諸侯との関係形成が先行研究によって明らかにされていた。今回の調査では、南フランスの十字軍士を率いたトゥールーズ伯レイモン４世と同修道院との間に寄進による関係構築があったことが分かった。この事実は、クリュニー修道院とレイモン４世の保護関係を重視し、教皇庁とレイモン４世の直接的な協力関係を想定していた先行研究に対して、元来より教皇庁と南フランス諸侯とを結びつけていた聖ヴィクトル修道院の役割と第一回十字軍における働きの重要性を問題提起できる。すなわち、十字軍は同時代に存在する社会的・宗教的活動の延長線上にある運動であり、決して急進的なものではない。また、それは教皇庁と地方とを結びつける存在によって長期的に形成された人的紐帯を基盤としている。一方で、地中海世界における十字軍運動の展開において、マルセイユの聖ヴィクトル修道院は重要な役割を果たしている可能性も十分に考えられる。1070年代に同修道院は、それまでビザンツ帝国やサラセン人の影響を受けていたサルデーニャ島に分院を設置し、その「キリスト教化」に貢献していたことがそこで保管されていた書簡から判明した。サルデーニャ島の回復は、1015年から1016年にかけてピサとジェノヴァの海軍によってなされており、Enrica Salvatoriのようにこの遠征を十字軍の起源とみなす研究者も存在する。地中海世界におけるキリスト教世界の拡大と十字軍運動の展開の連動性を検討する上でも、マルセイユを始めとする南フランス諸侯とピサ・ジェノヴァを始めとするイタリア諸都市の動向を実証的に解明する必要がある。
