本研究は、カンボジア西部森林地域カルダモン山脈各地の慣習的指導者たちが、現代カンボジアの社会変化のなかで、地域社会の生活、慣習の維持・適応・再興に果たす役割の課題と可能性の解明を目的とする。具体課題では、①先住民運動の全国ネットワークと地元活動の関係性、②地域社会に影響を与える政策や外部アクターと住民の関係、③慣習的指導者の影響力と社会的承認をめぐる過程、④地域の問題対応における慣習制度と公的制度の関係、⑤地域間の歴史的交流の実態と再編の動きを検討する。研究最終年度の本年度は前年度の成果を合わせて本研究を博士論文に仕上げていくために、個別課題でさらに整理を要した以下内容を発表した。課題の③、⑤に関して、日本カンボジア研究会にて「カンボジア南西部カルダモン山脈における社会関係の再編―移動、離別、交流、再会、記憶」の題目で発表を行った。そして、同研究会および所属研究室での議論をふまえて、内容の一部をまとめた論文を『東南アジア研究』に投稿した。初回の査読結果では、主題と対象地域ともにカンボジア研究、東南アジア研究に貢献しうる可能性が評価された。今後は題目、考察、解釈、論点、構成等を再整理、修正したうえで再投稿の予定でいる。また、本研究が対象とする地域の指導者の役割をより深く理解するために、指導者とそれ以外の一般の人々の生活面の歴史的変化と現代の状況を整理した。この結果を「カンボジアにおけるヤムイモ利用の歴史と現在」と題して発表した。同学会と所属研究室での議論をふまえた内容を一般書向けの原稿として執筆しており、本原稿は今後の校正を経て、松下幸之助記念財団の助成を頂き、風響社のブックレット〈アジアを学ぼう〉より刊行予定である。以上の本年度と前年度の成果をもとに博士論文の完成に向けてさらに研究を精緻化していく予定である。
