项目摘要

「月最大の衝突盆地South Pole-Aitken（SPA盆地）の新しい岩石分布マップを完成させ、このマップから盆地形成の衝突による地殻掘削領域、および地殻下の月マントルが衝突により溶融したとされるインパクトメルトの領域と深さを推定する。そして、観測データから算出したインパクトメルトの鉱物・元素組成を用いて、未だ明らかにされていない月マントルの組成を解明し、月の成因および進化の議論に繋げる」という内容を研究目的とし、研究を進めてきた。主に使用した観測機器は、SELENE「かぐや」搭載のマルチバンドイメージャ（MI）である。具体的に行ったことおよびその結果については、下記の通りである。１．SPA盆地内での地殻を構成する斜長岩のマッピングを行い、SPA盆地形成時に地殻がすべて掘削され、その下のマントル物質が現在分布している可能性の高い面は、盆地中央部であることを明らかにした２．斜長岩以外の岩石のマッピングをし、SPA盆地全域の岩石分布図を作成した。特に１から、マントル物質露出の可能性が高い盆地中心部を詳細に調査し、マントル物質が溶融したと考えられるインパクトメルトの露出領域を推定した３．２と元素組成マップ（FeO、TiO２）、地形情報（かぐやLALT）のデータとを照合させることで、各岩石層の層厚、層序を把握し、SPA盆地の地下の地質構造を推定した。その結果、インパクトメルトは少なくとも上下２層に分化しており、上は約７km、下は少なくとも８kmあることがわかった４．インパクトメルト露出領域（分化した上層）および下層が露出する中央丘の元素・鉱物組成を把握するとともに、最新のSPAのインパクトメルトの分化モデルと本研究の内容とを比較し、観測とモデルを照合させることで、月マントル物質の元素・鉱物組成を検証した。
