本研究は、異なる地域に居宅する高齢者における栄養素等の摂取量と健康状態や高齢者が自助努力で生活できる筋力との関連性について基礎資料を収集し、うつ傾向者や生活活動能力低評価の者を中心とした食生活とうつ病リスクなどと健康状態に関する傾向、知的好奇心旺盛者や地域特性を踏まえ、高齢者の健康と地域性を検討し、食生活との関係を検討することを目的とした。平成25年度に食事調査や生活習慣の質問票の作成、高齢者の身体計測機器の準備により測定時期が大幅に遅れ冬期に整えた。また、予定していた高齢者のとりまとめを依頼した方の不在（移動・変更等）により調査依頼の進行に支障を生じ調査協力者数は少なかったが、調査を行う上での問題点などが確認され、協力高齢者の負担を軽減するために、さらなる調整改善を進めた。平成26年度以降は、早期から調査対象者の選定として、知的向上心の旺盛者の調査や居住地の特性を踏まえた地域による調査計画を行った。食品摂取頻度として、質問票DHQLを用いて調査を行った。DHQLは、質問内容が多岐にわたり調査用紙22ページあり、高齢者自身による記入では調査項目に未記入等が多々生じ、更なる問題が生じた。その改善策に記入サポート者を配置しマンツーマンで行えるように改善し、調査を実施した。その結果、調査票（食習慣や生活習慣）の記入漏れが減少した。異なる地域として、当初の3地区（山間部、平野部、沿岸部）を捉えていたが、調査協力者、調査時期やサポート者の確保に困難を来たし沿岸部の協力が得られず、山間部と平野部で調査を実施した。補助事業期間の延長の承認を得て、平成28年度に調査票（食習慣や生活習慣）の記入漏れなどによる不備なデータを減らし、有効データ数の集約を進め知的好奇心旺盛者や地域特性を踏まえ、高齢者の健康と地域性、さらに精神生活活動強度の相関を検討し、食生活との関係を検討する予定であった。
