米国への留学が決定したため、短い採用期間となったが有意義な研究活動を行うことができた。今年度の研究活動は、投稿論文の執筆と博士論文の執筆に向けた二次文献の精読による先行研究の整理にわけられる。前者について、1970年代の米国におけるベトナム反戦運動と関わりながら、徴兵制度の同性愛者差別を是正する必要と、反戦のために徴兵制度自体に抵抗する必要の間で揺れた1970年代のゲイ解放運動を描き出す論文を執筆中である。この論文は、ゲイ解放運動の展開を冷戦下の反共主義や保守主義の台頭を考慮に入れながら論じる本研究のスタート地点に位置づけられるものになる。ゲイ解放運動と70年代の左派的な社会運動の間の距離と葛藤を見極めることによって、80年代以降の保守化の時代に入ってからもゲイ運動が現在に至るまで成長を続けている背景を理解することができると考えられるためである。この論文執筆と並行し、二次文献の整理にも努めた。これは主に2つの領域に分けられる。一つは、1960年代研究の領域である。昨今の1960年代、70年代に関する歴史研究は一国にとどまらず、トランスナショナルな展開を見せており、米国のゲイ解放運動を分析するにあたってもそのような視点は不可欠である。今年度は、米国に限らず日本を含むアジアやヨーロッパなど他地域での60年代研究の成果から学ぶように努めた。もう一つは、20世紀を通じたゲイ運動の歴史、とりわけ近年再評価がされている1950年代のホモファイル運動についての先行研究の整理である。赤狩りの時代に共産主義者とともに国家安全保障の脅威として同性愛者が弾圧された事実を背景に展開したホモファイル運動を理解することは、本研究の遂行の上で必須である。このようなこれまでの研究成果に加え、留学先でもさらに研鑽を積み、研究を今後も深化させていきたい。
