主課題である熱帯地域インフルエンザと気象・環境因子の疫学的関連の研究結果をまとめ論文発表する事ができた。本研究は熱帯地域のインフルエンザ流行動態と気象因子について調査した数少ない疫学的研究の一つである。また、グローバル化、地球温暖化、都市化、貧困層の増加が深刻化している事を踏まえ、都市貧困層を対象に調査を行った。バングラデシュが位置する東南アジアは抗原性・遺伝子研究から世界的なインフルエンザ流行や新型の発生源であり、本研究はその世界的な流行動向を理解する上で重要な情報を提供する役割を担った。また、主課題の経験をもとに感染症に応用するための環境疫学の解析方法論についてレビュー論文の発表も行った。他に、呼吸器感染症・気象因子・循環器疾患の3要因の相関関係における研究をオーストラリアの生物統計学者から新たな解析・研究方法を学び精力的に研究を行った。
