本年度の研究では、「読書」という行為が大衆へ普及した過程・要因を探るという目的をもって、その先駆けとなった『三國志演義』という大衆小説作品の刊行者について、刊行動機の考察、社会背景との関連性の考察を行った。『三國志演義』の刊行者は大半が民間の書坊であったが、個人で出版した人物として、明朝の勲戚、武定侯郭勛が挙げられる。貴族階級にあり、皇帝世宗からの深い寵愛を受けた人物でもある郭勛という人物が、何故大衆小説である『三國志演義』を個人的に刊行したのか。報告者は昨年度の研究成果として発表した『三國志演義成立史の研究』（汲古書院、2016年3月）において、現存版本数種の冒頭に置かれている「三國志通俗演義引」（所謂修髯子引）が郭勛の著である可能性が高いことを論証し、郭勛が『三國志演義』を刊行した動機は、その序文に表明されているように、民衆への道義の教化が一つであろうと提言した。そこで本年度は、この郭勛という人物について、族譜や関連する史料を精査し、その人生と文学活動を紐解く研究に着手した。結果、郭勛の一族は明朝開国の功臣、郭英に始まり、その子孫達も多くが武職に就いたが、同時に文化活動にも秀でた者が各世代におり、伝統詩文の著作やその刊行も豊富で、一流知識人との交流も持っていたという事実が判明した。彼らは文官と武官の中間、また兵士などの下層民と上層階級の中間に存在したのであって、謂わばその文化交流の中心を担っていたのである。このような郭氏一族と政治、文学活動、知識人たちとの交流を、詳細な年表としてまとめたのが、「明朝勲戚武定侯郭氏と文学―家譜・年譜―」（『京都府立大学学術報告・人文』第68号、2016年12月）である。さらに、現在、郭氏と文学活動をより詳しく考察した論文二本を執筆中である。大要は本年度11月に行われた「東方学会平成28年度秋季学術大会」にて発表も行っている。
