本研究は、7世紀後半の斑鳩造像にみられる地域性と国際性に着目することで、従来必ずしも十分な研究がなされていない彫刻作例の年代を相対化し、造像背景に迫ることを目的とする。平成27年度には、斑鳩中宮寺に所蔵される木造半跏思惟像（伝如意輪観音像）に注目し、古代の半跏思惟像の系譜における中宮寺像の位置づけと特殊性に関して考察を進めた。また中宮寺像の制作背景や制作環境に迫るため、8世紀初頭、すなわち法隆寺再建の終盤期における法隆寺周辺の状況を、文献資料上から精査する作業を行った。一方で、半跏思惟像と弥勒信仰との関わりという視点からのアプローチも行い、飛鳥・奈良時代の弥勒信仰に関連する文献上の記事を抽出、この時期の聖徳太子信仰と弥勒との関わりについて検討した。斑鳩造像への様式の影響をより多角的に考えるため、古代東アジアの仏教彫刻の重要作例、特に近年南朝造像との関わりが指摘される作例が多数出陳された特別展「古代仏教彫刻大展」を見学、とくに南朝造像との関わりが注目される作例に関しては、受入研究者の科学研究費助成事業「5～9世紀東アジアの金銅仏に関する日韓共同研究」において調査する機会を得、熟覧・写真資料の収集も進めることができた。半跏思惟像と弥勒との関わりについては別途、韓半島の磨崖仏にあらわされる半跏思惟像にも着目し、図像上の意味、典拠について検討する作業を進めている。とくに7世紀後半の斑鳩造像との関連が指摘される三国時代後半の百済・新羅作例に関して、従来日本であまり紹介のない作例を中心に現地調査、及び写真資料・関連文献の収集を行った　以上の研究は現在進行中であるが、大阪大学で行われた国際シンポジウムにおいて、その研究成果の一端を示す機会を得、「7世紀後半の斑鳩造像における亡命百済人の影響」と題した口頭発表を行った。

The research project "Joint research on gold and copper in the East China Sea from the 5th to the 9th century" aims to obtain opportunities for investigation, review and collection of photographic data.
