本研究は，グローバル化の進展による国際貿易の形態の変化を踏まえて，国際貿易を進めることが各国の労働市場にどういった影響を与えるのか，そしてどのような政策を立てれば貿易から得られる便益（被る費用）を最大（最小）化することができるのかを，明らかにすることを目的とするものである．採用1年目においては，当初の計画通り，近年増加している理論的研究の動向を踏まえ，他国の輸入競争力がベトナムの企業の雇用に与える影響についての計量経済分析を行った．次に，採用2年目にかけ，これまで貿易データの制約により実証分析を用いた研究の蓄積が著しく不足していた，付加価値貿易とスキル別労働に関する研究に取り組んだ．豊富なデータの集中するEUが率いて構築した世界産業連関表データベースをもとに，各国のグローバルバリューチェーンへの参加の度合いを測る指標を計算し，新たな拡張データベースを作成した．この産業別国際貿易のデータとスキル別労働データを組み合わせ，国際貿易が各国・各産業のスキル間での雇用・賃金に与える影響を，計量経済分析を用いて計測した．これにより，国際貿易や企業の生産過程の拠点分散化（フラグメンテーション）と労働需要のスキル構造との関係を明確にすることができた．さらに，貿易は必然的に多国間かつ通時的な側面を有するため，各国の経済発展における経路依存効果や，その効果が多国間に及ぼす相互作用の分析にも研究を発展させる必要がある．そこで，計算可能な一般均衡（CGE）モデルを用いたシミュレーションによる分析を行った．環太平洋連携協定（TPP）への加入といったグローバル化がもたらすとされている，スキル別労働者に与える失業率や賃金格差の原因を追究し，動学モデルを用いてその効果の予測を行っている．したがって，分析手法を計量経済学の手法からCGEモデルへ拡張することにより，より頑健な政策提言を行うことができよう．
