项目摘要

本研究のテーマである高校留学は、発達状況、留学中にする体験（例：ホームステイで家族の一員となる）、帰国後の課題（例：大学受験）などの点で、大学での留学とは異なる。しかし、高校留学は「大学での留学に向けたお試し」と認識されることも多く、高校留学にフォーカスした研究は少ない。高校留学を適切に促進するためには、高校留学の独自性を明らかにすることが重要である。また、保護者や高校教員の大きな関心は、留学体験が帰国後どのように役に立つのかという点にある。しかし、留学の長期的な成果に関する研究は、高校留学に限らず留学全般で不足している。人材育成政策の一環として、留学の影響が数年後にどのように現れるのかを詳しく明らかにすることも重要な課題である。本研究はこれらの点をふまえ、交換留学という一形態を取り上げ、高校留学中の体験と帰国後への影響を明らかにすることを目的とする。具体的には、高校交換留学を体験した大学生24名に対して聞き取り調査を行い、データを修正版グラウンデッド・セオリー・アプローチ(M-GTA)によって分析して、大学生が自身の高校交換留学体験の意義を認識していくプロセスを示した。それは、異文化生活による自文化の相対化、派遣先の地域社会になじめたことによる自信の獲得という留学中の体験をもとに、帰国後は、周囲に惑わされず、自分がやりたいことをやればよいという信念で、大学進学や大学生活の過ごし方などを決めるようになっていき、その結果、交換留学体験を成長の源泉ととらえるようになるプロセスであった。本研究の意義は以下の点にある。1) 現地の地域社会との密接な関わりや帰国後への大きな影響など、高校交換留学体験の独自性を示した。これは、保護者や教員の、高校留学への理解や指導に役立つ。2) 大学生までの期間における高校交換留学の意義を示した。人材育成に高校交換留学体験が与える影響が示唆された。
