项目摘要

My original objectives for this year (2015-2016) were fully achieved. I submitted an academic paper in Japanese for the Society of Architectural Historians of Japan (建築史学会), which was accepted in February. It will be published in September. Besides this, I did a presentation about my research theme (Nagasaki) at an international symposium in the Tokyo University of Foreign studies (東京外国語大学). I used the available research funds to purchase digital scans or photocopies of historical materials from various archives, including the British Library, and the Society of Jesus in Rome (Archivum Romanum Societatis Jesu). I also visited more than 14 institutions (art galleries, museums) to investigate folding screens (屏風) from the Namban period. I purchased/rented high-resolution images of the folding screens, and analyzed them. In the final 6 months, I wrote and completed my Doctoral dissertation about Nagasaki. I received the diploma of Doctor in March 2016, and my dissertation was awarded as the best Doctoral Dissertation in the department of Engineering (工学研究科長賞). Besides this, I participated in the Italy Research Group in my laboratory, and made a presentation about the city of Asolo in an international symposium at the University of Tokyo.
