本研究では、意思決定者が現在の利益や損失を将来のそれらよりも過度に重視する「現在バイアス」を持ち、更にそのバイアスの程度やそれに関する認識が個人間で異なることを許容した動学的意思決定のモデルを取り上げ、こうしたモデルの識別問題を議論した上で、モデルを応用して時間選好のバイアスが健康診断の受診行動に与える影響を実証分析した。具体的には、多くの意思決定者が時間選好に基づいて3種類の観測不可能なタイプに分類できると仮定し、タイプに基づく有限混合モデルを構築した上で、まずはタイプの分布やタイプ毎の選択確率を識別し、次にそれを用いて選好パラメータを識別する2段階アプローチをとった。有限混合モデルの識別に関しては多くの先行研究が存在するが、ラグ付き被説明変数やタイプの変遷を許したモデルなどの広いクラスのモデルについて、適切な状態変数及び操作変数を用いて一般の2期間パネルデータによる識別を模索した点が本研究の貢献となっている。結果的に、先行文献で用いられていなかった変数の変動を利用することでより短いパネルデータでの識別が可能になることなどがわかった。推定についても、先行文献で用いられていたパラメトリックな方法や数値的に不安定なノンパラメトリック法の代わりに、ノンパラメトリックな最小二乗推定法を考案した。また実際のパネルデータを用いた分析では、頑健な結果ではないものの、時間選好におけるバイアスが受診率を押し下げていることを示唆する結果が得られた。本研究で用いられた識別・推定の手法は消費・貯蓄、労働供給、新技術導入、喫煙など幅広い文脈に応用可能であり、また有限混合モデルの分析のみに絞ると個人の異質性が存在するかなり幅広い計量経済モデルに応用可能である。意思決定主体間に存在する様々な差異をうまく取り扱うことは、政策分析においても重要であり、本研究の結果は実用的にも極めて有用である。
