最終年度である本年度は、スキャンロンの契約主義の関係論的性格を明らかにすることを通じて、スキャンロンの契約主義が、人々が有する多様な価値へのコミットメントに起因する道徳的不一致を適切に理解し、調停するための有効な視角を与えうる理論であることを明らかにした。スキャンロンの契約主義は、しばしば関係論的性格を有するとされる。しかし、スキャンロンが想定する道徳的関係とはいかなるものであるのか、明確に理解されてきたとはいえない。これに対して本研究は、スキャンロンの契約主義は、次の二つの関係を想定する点で、「関係論的」であると指摘した。第一の関係とは、理由応答的存在者の間に成立する関係である。我々は、こうした関係に我々と立つ他者に対して、理にかなった仕方で拒絶しえない原理に基づいて行為する理由がある。第二の関係とは、相互承認の関係である。この関係は、理由応答的存在者同士の関係に立つ我々が、互いに対して理にかなった仕方で拒絶しえない原理に基づいて行為することに成功したときに成立する価値ある関係である。上記の研究を通じて明らかにされた契約主義の関係論的性格は、契約主義が次の二つの点において、価値の多元性に起因する道徳的不一致に取り組むための有効な視角を提示しうることを示している。第一に、契約主義によれば、我々が価値づける理由のある多様な関係やプロジェクトから生じる規範は、道徳的関係の規範と対立しうる。契約主義は、こうした対立の可能性を認めうる点において、多様な規範がどのように関連しあうのかについての直観的に説得的な記述を与えることができる。第二に、契約主義はなぜ道徳的関係の規範が、こうした多様な関係性の規範に対して通常の場合は優先するのかを正当化することができる。そのためスキャンロンの契約主義は、多様な関係の規範の間の衝突を調停するための有効な視角を与えうる理論であるということができる。
