项目摘要

ボルネオにおいて過去には流動的だった生業選択が、稲作の浸透に伴って固定化されていったのではないかという仮説を昨年度の報告で提示した。これに関連する論文を執筆した（査読中）。野生の澱粉源であるヤシ澱粉の労働効率性の高さについて稲作などと比較しながら説明し、比較的最近まで農耕民も米の不足を補うためにこれを利用していたことを文献調査から指摘した。一方、最近の狩猟採集社会は稲作を中心とする生業へと移行しており、近過去における農耕民と同様の生業体系をもつようになったといえる。しかし、かれらは農耕民とは違うものと自他ともに認識している。狩猟採集民についての社会経済データを分析し、この認識を生み出すもとを考察した。そして、稲作や貨幣経済の浸透にも関わらず財産が形成されていない状況を指摘した。等価交換が農耕社会では浸透しているが、狩猟採集社会では集団内部ではこれが適用されていない。稲作そのものだけではなく等価交換の原則が浸透していくことで、等価交換を原則とする農耕社会と分配を原則とする狩猟採集社会への分化が進んだのではないか。また、ボルネオの狩猟採集民が有する澱粉源ヤシに関する知識の詳細について、国立民族学博物館のシンポジウムにおいて発表した。ヤシの成長段階に関する詳細な知識や、澱粉採集に際して用いる技術を紹介した。考古学的な証拠により、約4万年前からボルネオでヤシ澱粉が利用されていたことがわかっている。樹木作物、栄養繁殖作物、野生植物の半栽培などこれまでは等閑視されてきたものが、東南アジアやアマゾンにおける考古学の研究成果から近年注目されるようになってきている。数世紀前までは、米やキャッサバ以上にこういった植物が主食として大きな割合を占めていた可能性がある。現在から過去を推測してはならないが、現在の狩猟採集民の知識や技術は過去を明らかにする研究を進めるうえでヒントを与えるかもしれない。
