今年度は（１）増上寺貸付の展開と武家・幕府との関わり（２）江戸幕府の恩赦と増上寺・寛永寺の関係を中心に研究を行った。主に関連図書、史料集の購入と、文書館への出張、および関連史料の撮影・収集に奨励費を充てた。（１）増上寺の経済基盤において貸付が占める位置を検討し、武家貸を中心に増上寺貸付の内実と展開を明らかにした。①増上寺では幅広い大名・旗本へ貸付を行い、いずれも少額かつ短期の貸付が基本、②文政期までは山内の複数の部署が自己資金に教団内からの預金を得て、武家・教団内への貸付を行っていたが、武家貸の焦げ付きにより経営難に陥り、幕府の許可を得て外部の商人の資本を江戸・大坂の町人へ貸付するようになった、③町人への貸付開始後も、幕末に至るまで武家貸は継続し、金額も増大傾向にあった、⑤貸付に対する武家側の需要は大きく、また貸付の前提に増上寺と大名家の縁故がある場合が多いため、利下げや年譜償還、棄捐となる貸付も多かった、④幕府は増上寺からの願いによって大名の家臣へ返済指示を行うなど貸付を保護していたことを指摘した。（２）将軍家菩提寺として増上寺・寛永寺（＝両山）が関与した、将軍家関係法要における幕府の恩赦（＝法事の赦）の性質について、幕府内部での手続き、両山へ罪人の赦免嘆願が行われる際の手続きを解明し、幕府役人の議論から、幕府・庶民の法事の赦に対する見解を明らかにした。①法事の赦は両山から願い出る性質のもので、その形式は幕末まで守られ続けた、②町人・百姓や武士層の刑罰の赦免以外に、御家人による召出願いも散見され、法事の赦が再仕官を嘆願する機会にもなっていた、③赦免を受刑者の親族らが願う際には、両山関係者との縁故が必要であった、④将軍家の慶事に実施される恩赦（＝祝儀の赦）との比較から、幕末期には庶民から法事の赦の不平等性に不平が出ており、幕府役人もそれを認識していたことが明らかになった。
