"Dark Silicon" relates to the amount of circuitry in a VLSI chip which cannot be powered-on, i.e., work at nominal voltage/frequency, due to power and bandwidth budget constraints. This is one the greatest obstacles for future implementations of large NoC-based MPSoCs.This research tries to sprout a new class of intelligent network management techniques (packet control) to mitigate power consumption due to communication and allow new levels of performance and/or power efficiency.The PI attended high quality international conferences being able to assess the originality and suitability of the methodology for future systems, both embedded and high performance ones. A NoC simulator is being constructed for detailed analysis of our newly proposed routers and control mechanisms.
