昨年度は、コロナ渦の影響があり、残念ながら美術館、博物館における新たな調査を実施することができなかった。そこで、これまで調査してきた画像データの分析が研究の中心となった。研究者は既に、現存するすべての「東照宮縁起絵巻」の調査をすませている。すなわち、狩野探幽による日光東照宮本、住吉家による和歌山東照宮本、岡山東照宮本、日光輪王寺本、大阪城天守閣本の全５本である。それらの画像の比較・分析作業をおこなった。その結果、住吉家がおこなった「東照宮縁起絵巻」の写しの作業は、単純な模写ではなく、実は様々な部分で異なることがわかった。これは、同じ絵師の家で、伝存する粉本がありながらも、新たな製作の際には、試行錯誤が加えられていることが推察できる。どのような理由で変化を加えているのか。それを今年度、考えてゆきたい。また、江戸時代後期に製作された「東照宮縁起絵巻」は、先行する合戦図などをもとに考証した成果が加えられている点も重要である。
