项目摘要

本研究課題は、マグソコガネ亜科Aphodiinaeの分子系統解析を実施し、食性や生息環境といった生態的特性の違いが種の多様化に与える影響を検証することを目的としている。2019年度は分子系統解析および分類学的研究を重点的に実施した。系統学的研究として、世界の広義マグソコガネ亜科全亜科および全族を含めた6亜科9族から成る合計138OTUsを対象に分子系統解析を行った。その結果、広義マグソコガネ亜科の単系統性が示唆された。一方で、狭義マグソコガネ亜科・ツツマグソコガネ族・Odontolochini族・マグソコガネ族がそれぞれ多系統群であること、現在狭義マグソコガネ亜科には含まれず、独立した亜科として扱われている5亜科すべてがマグソコガネ亜科に含まれることが明らかとなった。これは、本亜科における先行研究で、本亜科の形態的多様性を過大に評価していたことを示唆している。今後、本研究によって明らかとなった分子系統解析の結果を元に、高次分類体系の大規模な改訂を進める必要がある。また、好白蟻性は、好白蟻性種のみからなるCorythoderini-Termitoderini-Termitotrogini系統と自由生活者を含むRhyparini-Stereomerini系統の少なくとも2回独立に進化したことが明らかとなった。これは、先行研究における形態に基づく系統推定の結果とは大きく異なっていた。分類学的研究に関しては、ポーランドの研究者との共同研究として好白蟻性属Termitodiellus属の未記載種の記載を行い、Insecta Mundi誌にて出版された。また、ミャンマーより未記載種の好白蟻性マグソコガネおよび130年ぶりの再発見となる好白蟻性マグソコガネを確認した。現在公表に向けて論文を執筆中である。
