项目摘要

価格競争が行われる財の小売価格の推移において、エッジワース・サイクル（EC）と呼ばれる循環的変動が現れることがある。ECとは価格の急激な高騰と緩やかな下落を繰り返す周期的変動のことである。本研究は、現実のガソリン小売価格に見られるEC的変動において時間的・空間的秩序が発生する機構の解明を目的としている。前年度までの研究において、日本・オーストラリアの両市場で小売価格変動の時間的・空間的秩序が現れることを発見している。そしてその発生機構を、店舗の価格決定様式から説明しうることを実証的に示している。これらの研究結果は、ECの基本的性質を理解する上で大変重要なものである。本年度は、前年度までに得られたECの基本的性質についての知見を応用することで、市民生活に深く関連する事象である価格転嫁の性質を検証するという発展的な取り組みを行った。ここで価格転嫁とは、ガソリンの卸価格の変動分がその小売価格へ転嫁される事象のことを指す。本年度は、日本・オーストラリアのガソリン小売市場においてECの発生が卸価格から小売価格への「転嫁速度」と「最終的な転嫁率」へどのような影響を与えるかを検証した。検証の結果、まず、日本・オーストラリアの市場において、ECの発生が転嫁速度を速くすることを示した。次に、ECが発生している地域において卸価格が変動するとその変動分以上が小売価格へ最終的に転嫁されることを示した。この結果は本研究によって初めて明らかにされた現象である。これら結果は、2020年の日本経済学会(春季)で発表予定である。
