项目摘要

本年度は、これまでの2年間の研究成果を踏まえ、それを補完するために、主にユリウス＝クラウディウス朝期における反皇帝陰謀後の感謝祭決議に注目した。これまで感謝祭決議は、元老院による皇帝への単なる阿諛追従だと理解され、それ以上の政治的な意義を認められてこなかった。しかし感謝祭決議を一つ一つ分析していくことによって、特にティベリウス帝期とネロ帝期に、元老院がこうした決議を通じて、皇帝とどのような関係性を築こうとしていたのかが、徐々に見えてきたと思われる。まず明らかになるのは、感謝祭決議が皇帝によって強制されていたわけではなく、むしろ元老院によって主体的に行われていたということである。そしてこうした主体的な決議は、当時の元老院が、皇帝に積極的に服従していたことを示唆している。さらにこのような積極的な服従は、社会秩序、つまり国家の安寧(Salus publica)を護るための手段であったと考えられるのである。実際元老院が感謝祭決議を通じて、皇帝を称賛するとともに、彼に対して国家の安寧への配慮を要請していたことが、主に叙述史料・碑文史料から分かる。とりわけネロ帝期には、他の皇帝の治世と比較しても相対的に多くの感謝祭決議が確認できるが、それらの決議からは、皇帝と元老院の間で、国家の安寧をめぐるやり取りが継続的に交わされていたことが確かめられるのである。これは元老院にとって感謝祭決議が、皇帝とコミュニケーションを重ね、彼に国家の保護者としてふさわしい役割を果たすよう求め続けていくための、重要な手段の一つであったことを示している。以上の分析結果を、本年度の史学会大会において報告した。現在は、その報告内容の論文化を進めている。また、感謝祭決議と関連するテーマである元老院裁判についても、次回の西洋古典学会の大会で研究発表を行う。そしてこれらの論文をもとに、博士論文の執筆にも取り掛かりたい。
