今年度は、ローマ壁画の異国表現における風景描写について、文献資料をもとに考察をすすめた。ポンペイなどのヴェスヴィオ地域で描かれた異国表現と帝国中心部であるローマで描かれた異国表現について比較し、その差異を考察した。文献資料を中心に考察を進める中で、ローマ人自身が記したラテン文学等のなかにも、実際のローマ人が異国をどのようにみていたのか、そして首都ローマ周辺の自然環境をどう感じていたのかを探る糸口があるように思われた。そのため、セネカやタキトゥス、ウィトルウィウス、プリニウスなどのローマ時代の哲学者・歴史家・著述家たちの著作から、風景へ関心を向けた記述や自然の記述方法などを細かく洗い出し、当時の人々の自然観を分析することを試みた。そして、そうした自然観が壁画やモザイク、彫刻等の美術や建築空間に反映されている可能性を探った。以上の成果については、令和3年度の投稿論文として準備中である。また10月には、昨年度に行ったポスター発表（ “Il paesaggo mitologico segue un modello? In particolare nelle pitture di paesaggio mitologico in terzo e quarto stile”, XIV convegno internazionale AIPMA, 2019, Naples, Italy）についてのプロシーディングが、国際ローマ壁画学会（AIPMA）の査読を通過し、掲載が決定した（2021年発行予定）。
